Hello Marlins,
Congrats on a super Saturday at Time Trials! Great job swimmers! To see the results of all three divisions, click HERE
This week we will continue practice for all who made it to Finals. If you are unsure, check the link at the left or come tonight and your coaches can tell you what you are swimming. Tonight will be practice as usual. Then for Tues-Friday, some will swim a different schedule - See the white board at the pool and/or see your coaches for more information.
Then Finals will be this Saturday at Golden West High School in Visalia. Please be at the pool at 7:30. We will NOT be sitting where we did for our meet last time. We will be sitting on the grass area just west of that (where some of us parked last time). Parking is ONLY in the front of the school in the parking lot. Good luck swimmers. Swim Hard~Swim Fast!
Our TEAM PARTY will be Sunday the 18th from 2-5 at the college pool. We will be having an ice cream and fruit bar. If you cannot bring what you signed up for, please email us ASAP so we can purchase that item. We will have family swim and a family relay, treats and awards. We will also elect the Marlins Board for 2011, so be sure to cast your vote. If you would still like to nominate someone you may do so until this Friday, July 16th (either at the pool or via email). However, voting will only take place in person at the party on the 18th. There will be one vote per family.
Also, some of you still have ribbons to pick up. Please get them at practice. If you are not practicing anymore, please get them at the party. Please feel free to email any questions you might have.
Have a great day!
Welcome
We are so glad you have decided to stop by and visit our team site. Our primary aim is the development of personal skills and goals through the positive experience of competitive swimming, within the guidelines set forth by the Central Valley Recreational Swim League (CVRSL).

Volunteer Sign-Ups
Parents, Thanks so much to those of you who have already volunteered at both home and away meets. Some of you have even put in more than the time we asked for (2 home meets/1 away). Thank you , thank you, thank you!
If you have not signed up to do your part, please see a board member at practice. There are still many slots open to time, record, help in the snack bar, or bring snacks for hospitality. We need every family to help in one way or another.
A HUGE thank you to our amazing, dedicated and hard working deck crew: Our Starter, Adam, Computer Ladies, Ribbon Gals, Hospitality Team, Head Timer, Stroke and Turn Judges and our announcer, Mr. Denton, who does a fabulous job keeping us all informed. We couldn't run successful meets without you!
Thanks too to the BEST Coaching staff ever! Our swimmers are doing great thanks to you :)

Notes and Updates 6/16/10
Hello Marlins,
CONGRATULATIONS on a great 1st meet last night! You all did so well. Thanks too to all of you who helped time and record.
Tomorrow is our first home meet and we will need even more help :) There are many spots still open. If you would like to help, please email reedleymarlins@yahoo.com.
We appreciate your patience tonight while we sorted out pool conflicts.
Swimmers should be at the college pool Thursday, June 17th at 5:30 in order to get numbers, warm up, etc.
Please use the open area in front of the snack bar to camp. Please DO NOT CAMP IN THE BLEACHERS. We ask that you watch your swimmer swim their events and then go back to where you are sitting to make room for parents in each of the events. Also, the college has requested that we do not camp by the gym and Tiger bushes area. That means that all families should not go beyond where the bathrooms end.
WE will have a snack bar with baked potatoes, drinks, and all sorts of goodies. Jamba Juice will also be present and Marlins will recieve 20% of the sales.
TShirts arrived this evening and look great! They are $13.00.
If anyone would like to help set up for the meet, we will start setting up chairs, etc. around 4:45.
See you all tomorrow.

Practice Canceled Tuesday 4/20
Practice is CANCELED!
On another note, it was great to see so many parents attend the meetings last night. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the board at practice or through email. If your question is for a coach, please let a board member know and they will ask the coach to come and meet with you after practice is over. For insurance purposes we ask that parents stay off the deck (except when timing and recording at meets).
We are excited about our fundraisers this year. While you are not required to participate, we do encourage each swimmer to do their best to bring in at least $50.00. We fund raise to help keep your costs down. The board was asked if parents could just donate money and not fund raise. Of course, we would never turn down money for our team. But again, our goal here is to keep your costs down to a minimum.
We were also asked about doing a swim-a-thon this year. We are not going to have a swim-a-thon. Our belief is that in tough economic times people are more reluctant to fund raise. So, if they are going to sponsor a fundraiser, they want to "get something" from it. That is why we chose some inexpensive, unique treats to sell. In addition, we offered advertising opportunities for businesses to promote their name and product.
If you choose not to participate, please return your packet to a board member so we can hand out to someone else. But we encourage you to consider supporting the Reedley Marilns by selling a few apples, a few bags of popcorn, or getting your place of employment to purchase a banner or ad. Thank you for supporting our swimmers.

News and Reminders
Happy Sunday!
Just a reminder there will be a Parent meeting tomorrow, Monday, April 19th for the first 15 minutes of each age group practice. Each family needs to attend one of these meetings. Our head coach, Janet Ross will introduce herself and the age group coaches. Board members will be present to share about the fundraiser, answer any related questions, and hand out fundraising packets.
This year we have several ways to earn money to support our team. Your fundraising efforts help to keep the cost of registration down. Fundraising also helps with coaching expenses, league fees, pool fees, insurance, equipment, printing, ribbons, and awards, etc.
Each swimmer will receive a packet with easy ways to bring in money for our team. We DO NOT suggest you send your swimmers through the neighborhood, going door to door unless you will accompany them. Instead, it is safer to call family members, ask for sponsorship at your job, or ask your next door neighbors who you are familiar with. You may even want to buy a banner to cheer on your own kids, buy a yummy apple for your mom or grandma for Mother’s Day, or buy some gourmet popcorn as a teacher’s gift!
Fundraising will include:
~Banners that can advertise a business or encourage your swimmers.
~Advertisements in our 2010 Handbook to advertise a business or recognize swimmers.
~Gourmet popcorn in various size containers to munch on yourself or give as a gift.
~Gourmet Apples that would make any mom smile!

Reminders and Updates
Early Swimmers:
We WILL be swimming this Friday after the High School swim meet. We WILL also be swimming if it rains (unless there is thunder and lightening!)
ALL SWIMMERS:
After 4 years, we are finally getting a new team swimsuit! Yay!!! We encourage any swimmer who still fits in their old team suit to use it for practice. Team suits should be worn for meets only.
We realize that for families with more than one swimmer, registration can be a bit much at one time. So, we are giving families another "heads-up." You may start making payments now on your registration by sending a check to Jorge Delport - 1225 S Enns, Reedley, CA 93654. Please make all checks out to Reedley Marlins and write your swimmers' names in the memo line. You can pick up your receipt(s) on registration day. All registration monies are due in full by April 5th. Any swimmer whose registration is not paid will not be allowed to swim.
We need everyone's help to make this the best season yet! We are asking parents to volunteer for positions now, so we will all be on the same page once regular practice starts.
Below are the volunteer positions with a brief description of what we are looking for. Those not crossed out, we still need to fill. We know that you are all gifted in unique ways and we want to use your talents effectively. If you helped in an area last year and would like to continue in that area, please let us know (and Thanks in advance for your help!)
If there is something you really want to do to assist the team this season, but do not see it below, please feel free to send us an email along with an explanation of how you would like to help.
THANKS to those who have already filled positions! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:
*1 Volunteer Coordinator: This person would manage all volunteer positions-making sure all spots are filled for swim meets. He or she would be provided with an email list and/or phone list, as well as a list of all volunteer positions that need to be filled. He or she will also have an assistant who will help contact people and fill positions. (It would be helpful if either of these people were bi-lingual)
*1 Assistant Volunteer Coordinator: This person will help the coordinator to contact volunteers, and fill in where necessary.
*Fundraising: 1 coordinator who will organize fundraising activities along with the board and 3-4 helpers.
*Team-Wear: (1 person to purchase suits, t-shirts, hats, etc) Crystal Shenk
*Program: We would like to have 1 person who would like to create a program for each home meet that would include our sponsors and other information.

Ideally, we could also have photos displayed on the site and this person could sell prints for a small fee (and use it as a fundraiser).
HOME MEETS:
1) Computer input: We will need 2 people to work with the swim software and input names/times, etc. (If this is a returning volunteer-Fabulous! If not, we will provide you with training before the meets begin) We will also need 1 runner to pick up time sheets and give them to the computer table. NEED 1 MORE person
2) Ribbons: We need 2 people to put labels on ribbons and prepare for the visiting team to take home at the end of the meet. This person would also be responsible for handing out the ribbons at practices).
3)Hospitality: We need 1 coordinator who would work with the Volunteer coordinator to get people signed up for snacks. We will need 2 people on deck to pass out snacks to timers, provide drinks, sharpen pencils, etc. (and at least 4 families per meet to provide snacks. Signups for making snacks will be on registration day).
4) On Deck Staff: 1 starter, 1 head timer, 2 stroke and turn judges who will either need to be returning volunteers and/or be trained in early spring.
