I am very excited uniting with the Marlins and I look forward to getting to know and train each and every one of you. I have enjoyed the sport of swimming for many years. I swam summer league for the Seawolves (with Coach Crandell) and High School swim. I also have coached with many amazing coaches like the late Coach Sam Crandell and the recently retired Gold Medal Olympian Coach Dick Blick (to name a few). Swimming is my passion!

My goal is to give each athlete my knowledge and attention by assisting them to meet their own personal goals in developing swimming technique as well as developing proper character as an individual. Real progress in swimming isn't measured merely by size, strength, speed and hard training-it also comes from the development of the whole person: his or her character, values and personality. It's not just about winning...It's also about personal growth within.

I have coached numerous sports (Track & Field, Volleyball, and Swimming) at almost every level - from 4 year old athletes to college level adults, including being the dryland coach for an Olympic Swimmer. I have also been an athlete myself (competing through college) and I am the proud mother of two children, Annie and Jeffrey, and the wife of Coach Eric.

I have been involved in the sport of swimming since I was born. My father, Mike Burton is a three time Olympic Gold Medalist. I have competed at the national level as well as the world level. I was a fourteen time All American while swimming for Cal State Bakersfield. While coaching in Bakersfield, I was involved with the development of two time Olympic Silver Medalist, Larsen Jensen. I am also the proud father of two kids, Annie and Jeffrey, and the husband of Coach Amanda.

I am very excited to be coaching in Reedley with the Marlins. I have been around water all my life. If I could wake up every morning to some type of body of water, I would be a very happy girl!! I have been coaching REC swimming for over 14 years. I started coaching when I was 17. I started swimming competitively at the age of 12 for the Kingsburg Seawovles and swam Varsity for 4 year for Kingsburg High School under retired Olympic gold medalist Richard Blick. I was also very fortunate to coach with him. He has taught me a lot about swimming, coaching and preparing young athletes for competition and especially for life. I have also coached girls and boys volleyball at the junior high, club and high school level. Coaching and working with kids is my passion. It is why I went into teaching. I learn something new everyday from my athletes and students. I am very blessed to have the opportunity to coach and work with your kids and an awesome group of coaches!!

COACH Zach:
I've been swimming with the Reedley Marlins since I was four years old. I am now seventeen. I swim and play water polo for Reedley High School. This is my fourth year coaching for the Marlins and I enjoy it very much. I hope to continue coaching for many more years.

COACH Matt:
I have been involved with Marlins since I was twelve years old. This is my fourth year coaching. I swam for Reedley High School and played water polo also. In high school I won the 100 and 50 free and my goal for this season is to get our swimmers in great shape and help them enjoy the sport of swimming.

COACH Samantha:
I have swam for the Marlins for twelve years and this is my third year coaching. I am also working at the Reedley City Pool as a Lifeguard. I play water polo and soccer and also swim for Reedley High School (all on the varsity level). I love swimming and teaching children something I have enjoyed all of my life.

COACH Jack:
I have been swimming competitively since I was four years old. I have always wanted to be a swim coach for young kids because I love the sport and I want others to love it as well!

COACH Garrett:
I have been in Marlins since I was seven years old. I have coached for three years. I am currently on the Reedley High School swim team and I am a Diver. I have received third and second in my event; backstroke. For my swimmers I would like to improve their stroke technique and make them better swimmers.

COACH Cody:
I am 21 years old and started swimming for Marlins at age four. I swam competitively from the age of eight to the age of fourteen. I also swam my freshman year for Immanuel High School and I played water polo for three years at Reedley High School. I have been Assitstant Coach for Marlins once before when I was a Junior. Now I am glad to do it again.

COACH Kat:
I am a high school swimmer and a Reedley Marlin. I have been swimming for thirteen years. I teach the 6 and unders because I love kids.

COACH Marissa:
I have been involved with the Marlins since I was in the 8th grade but I have been swimming since I was three years old. All four years of high school I played water polo and was team captain my Senior year. I was also on the Varsity swim team all four years of high school and was the team captain both Junior and Senior years. My favorite stroke is the freestyle and I took second in league for the girls 500 freestyle event. This is my second year coaching Marlins and I want to have many more great years with these amazing kids.

COACH Sarah:
This year I am coaching the 6 and under boys. I have been in Marlins since I was four years old. I am thrilled and excited to be coaching this season!

Marlins Meet requirements

Reedley Marlins
2010 MEET REQUIREMENTS AND DIRECTIONS
165 Swimmers

Facility Location: Reedley College Pool, 995 N Reed Avenue, Reedley, CA 93654
The pool has six lanes with starting blocks on one end

Meets begin at 6:30 p.m. and end after event 76
Warm-ups: Home Team (all lanes) 5:45 p.m.
Visiting Team (all lanes) 6:00 p.m. – please be at pool by 5:30

Event Requirements:
~Follow CVRSL lineup of events for dual meets. All heats are deck seeded - No Clerk of Course Each
swimmer may swim three individual and two relay events
~Relays – two heats only unless other arrangements have been made in advance
~Freestyle – Unlimited Heats
~Backstroke – Unlimited Heats
~All other strokes – Two Heats maximum unless other arrangements have been made in advance
~All CVRSL rules and regulations will be followed

Lane Assignments:
Home Team – Lanes 2, 4, 6
Visiting Team – Lanes 1, 3, 5

Visiting Team to provide the following:
~Team roster (using Hy-tek) to reedleymarlins@yahoo.com and bjszblake@yahoo.com
~Three Lane recorders and nine lane timers
~One stroke and turn judge

For Your Protection:
~Diving pool is off-limits AT ALL TIMES
~No running on deck
~No loitering near officials, timers or recorders
~Meet officials on duty at all meets
~Warm-ups must be coach supervised
~Diving during warm-ups permitted only if swimming in one direction
~Meet officials reserve the right to exclude any swimmer, coach, or spectator who fails to comply with pool
rules or exhibits poor sportsmanship or unsafe conduct

Awards:
Individual events will be awarded ribbons through 8th place and relays will be awarded ribbons through 5th place. Ribbons will be available to the visiting team’s coach after the meet (unless computer problems
occur, in which case they will be mailed).

Directions:
Take Manning Exit from Freeway 99. Head East for approximately 12 Miles. Turn left at first light after crossing river. Turn left into Reedley College parking lot - pool near tennis courts.

Facilities:
~All teams may camp behind the bleachers or in front of the snack bar area. No one is allowed in the grass area. Please DO NOT CAMP IN THE BLEACHERS or on deck.
~A Snack bar is open for your convenience and enjoyment. Please instruct swimmers that there is no eating on the deck. We appreciate no glass, alcohol, or smoking in the pool area. We also ask that visiting teams pick-up their trash before leaving.

Meet Schedule:
Sat June 5

PRACTICE MEET & PICTURES REVISED
Swimmers will show up at their designated time, take their picture and then we will take a team picture. After pictures, we will run through the meet event by event. Parents are needed to time and record. We encourage all new families to take this opportunity to volunteer and get experience timing/recording. This will be “like a swim meet” so pack up your goodies, chairs, etc. and plan on hanging out for a few hours.

For home meets, please arrive at the pool no later than 5:45. Away meet times will be announced.
